CCS Project Salad

Eating HEALTHY From the Ground Up
The second
annual Project Salad has been a huge success and SO much fun!
The kids enjoyed planting, and monitoring the growth as the
sprouting began! They have been keeping track of their progress
on a timeline in the CCS cafeteria (check it out next time you
visit!) This year, our students started the planting season off
by planting a bean seed in their classroom and taking it home to
monitor. They
learned about the stages of seed germination and what a plant
needs to grow. In
October, all grade levels planted seeds in our gardens including
snap peas, spinach, lettuce, carrots, green onions, and
radishes. To avoid
the frost, all available vegetables were harvested last week and
on Friday the kids feasted on the fruits of their labor,
enjoying a delicious salad that included all of the vegetables.
They are also using harvested vegetables for hands-on cross
curricular activities in their classrooms. Thank you to Banner
Catering for generously assisting in providing the salad for
each CCS student and thank you to the Fuel Up to Play Leadership
Team for making fun posters of the vegetables to decorate the
cafeteria & also a morning announcement to help build the
excitement. It sure was fun to see so many smiles about eating
vegetables!
